When I first moved to Ellesmere Port, nearly half a century ago, I can’t say I was impressed. Recently, however, I was given a CD full of old photos, and was surprised by how many of them I recognised. Several buildings are hardly changed, and even with wholesale demolition in parts of the town, many roads are still recognisable. There’s more history to be seen than many of us realise, even if we don’t live somewhere that is noted as being “historic”.

I had already started “colourising” my old family photos, so I thought I’d give these pictures the same treatment. Then I found an old program, bought years ago and forgotten, which allows me to morph one picture into another.

I’ve tried to make the colours as accurate as possible, and I’ve tried to take the modern pictures from the same angle as the old ones, obstacles and busy roads permitting!
